At the core of this home is a central 3-storey circulation spine, combining angular and curved sculptural shapes, materials repetition and dramatic “surprises” to singular effect. Beyond the entry, the sconce curves are repeated in deep stair base steps; a grid pattern appears in the 2-storey wall panelling and in the floating rail of a light-filled stair way.

In the entry hall, a mirror insert in the stone flooring reflects the glass panel lighting unit above; the wall mirrors provide glimpses of the living room and introduce a grid pattern, which, like the curves of the French sconces, will be re-interpreted throughout the home.

Both gracious entertaining and intimate family life are supported and enhanced by this modern but warm and timeless surrounding. Opening to the dining room and front hall, perfect for entertaining, this living room demonstrates the owners’ passion for art and music.

Both gracious entertaining and intimate family life are supported and enhanced by this modern but warm and timeless surrounding. The gathered sticks table base, twisted metal pendant and art finished walls animate this minimalist dining room, separated from the living room by double layered sliding doors, which simulate an unbroken wall when closed.

In the generous, light-filled kitchen’s asymmetrical layout, the sink, cook top and ovens align on a single dark wall; the storage / refrigeration on a white one. The whole family can gather at the large, square island.

The generous and comfortable family room is awash with natural light in daytime and bathed in the glow of the backlit onyx fireplace later when the blinds fully drop from their concealed housing.

Deep tones add intimacy and richness to this bedroom, in which the fireplace, TV and fabric-wrapped bench form one functional, cohesive unit tucked below ceiling slope.

Below this room’s loft play area there’s plenty of storage for clothes and toys, all surrounded by a racing super graphics theme in the 4 year-old boy’s favourite sports teams’ colours.
This 7 year-old boy’s furnishings will work for several years as he grows. Right now, Curious George’s jungle is inhabited by Blue Jays, reflecting his current favourites.

This 9 year-old girl’s garden room employs bright colour, exuberant graphics, handy storage and an offbeat feathered pendant light fixture that will still appeal when she is 13.

The serene master ensuite reflects those tastes, with its sophisticated milk chocolate palette and interesting textures. Custom fittings include the large double vanity with stacked and staggered drawers, make-up area and tub with a view.

Repetition of curved or staggered and stacked shapes was a key element in our design for this young family’s new home. Glossy black stacked and staggered vanity layers contrast dramatically against the shimmering glass bead and mirror surfaces in this glamorous powder room.

This clean, open and contemporary interior responds to this young family’s modern tastes, but references the traditional exterior elements, grey-brown stone / black-brown trim, in elements such as the flooring material and stair’s dark steel patina. The stair structure floats from and contrasts with the wall panels, floating glass panels float within its railing.

Careful detailing top to bottom make the central vertical circulation at the spine of this home its most powerful design element. Here, the gracefully sculpted wooden newel post emphasizes the change from the base step’s curves to the straight lines of the stair rail.
