Sole owner of Douglas Design Studio, Jeffrey is an award-winning interior designer with a unique combination of creative and design leadership skills and a track record of achieving extraordinary results for his clients.

Jeffrey’s work is informed by his passion for art, extensive travels and genuine delight in the perfect detailing. Notably, he has a special talent for combining antique pieces with modern furnishings in innovative ways, producing inviting rooms that are rich with history, yet fresh and contemporary.

Between graduating from Ryerson University in 1989 and founding his own company in 1995, Jeffrey honed his ability to develop both innovative concepts and exacting working drawings. His design sensibility was further informed by extensive travel and passion for fine art.

Jeff’s creativity and exceptional attention to detail have been recognized with several Awards of Excellence from the Association of Registered Interior Designers of Ontario. His work has been featured in publications such as Interior Design Magazine, Design New York, Style at Home, and Canadian House and Home.

Gordana Di Monte

Creative Director

Dip FMD, CDECA


Gordana Di Monte opened her own residential decorating firm, which she operated for 11 years before joining Douglas Design Studio in 2008. With a passion for art, music, architecture and fashion, she looks at every project as an opportunity for innovation.

Gordana offers hands-on decorating leadership with exceptional customer service. Clients often comment on her remarkable ability to mix styles, textures and finishes. Blessed with a discerning eye, she is able to distinguish even the slightest hues across a range of paints and textiles. Her keen aesthetic sense paired with problem solving creativity has led to her success in the industry.

Robert Reid

Director of Studio

DBA(abd), MSc, ARIDO, ASID

Robert graduated from the prestigious Pratt Institute, where he received his Master of Science degree in Interior Design. After a few years working at a large, international, commercial architecture firm based in New York City, Robert relocated to Texas, where he was a partner in a high-profile, boutique design practice. His project work includes hundreds of commercial, residential, mixed-use, multi-family, large and small-scale design projects across the United States, Canada, the Middle East and Europe.

He is a very methodical and focused designer who believes attention to the most minute details of a project separates a great designer from the rest. His projects are each unique and varied in style – from very traditional to ultra-contemporary – with his signature an adherence to a strong concept, unique materials, one-of-a-kind details, elegant finishes and a strategic use of technology. 

 

Christina Ballarino

Director of Finance and Operations

 

Christina is instrumental in the short and long term strategic development of the company, creating the organizational blueprint that enables the company to anchor and expand Jeffrey’s creative vision.

With over 15 years of management experience, and working with Jeffrey for over 10 years, Christina is responsible for the overall management of the Finance, Human Resource, Marketing and Administration departments.  She is the key contact for clients with questions about fees and billings. 

Douglas Design Studio looks to Christina for her advice, calm rationale, and business expertise.

Negin Valizadeh
Junior Designer

Ryerson graduate of School of Interior Design with experience in many branches of design with a focus on residential interior design. Her role is to research and tackle design issues within various projects and to communicate design details to the team through working drawings to bring vision into reality.  Her keen eye for design detailing allows her to assist the team in making decisions and selecting finishes for the projects.

Junior Designer

With a background in architecture and interior design, Neil has overseen a diverse collection of projects ranging from commercial and residential ventures to customized digital models and concepts. With a passion for health and fitness he will never turn down a chance to hit the gym and believes that every new project is a blank canvas for us to showcase our creative promise. Time to create something special!

John Budinsky
Architectural Technologist

John is an architectural technologist and designer whose work is visible throughout the Toronto area. He is a graduate of the University of Waterloo and Centennial College, where he studied urban planning and architecture. He prides himself on his multi-disciplinary approach to residential architecture, applying innovative technical solutions to achieve broad design goals. He is responsible for designing numerous custom homes in the GTA and supervising their construction.

Mandy Smajda
Purchasing Coordinator

With her attention to detail and commitment to client satisfaction, Mandy brings over 10 years of purchasing and coordinating experience with Douglas Design Studio. As the main contact for quotes and orders, she is an asset in handling complex logistics. A foodie with a love for road trips and snowboarding, she can always be counted on for her infectious laugh and great sense of humour.

Design Assistant

Averell is a recent graduate of Ontario College of Art and Design University (OCAD) in Environmental Design.  She is a proponent for sustainable and human-centered design.  What drives her passion for interior and architectural design is looking thoughtfully at how people use and interact with the built environment, and how these environments are able to narrate a greater story.
