Douglas Design Studio has been selected as a winner by the Outstanding Property Awards London (OPAL) as a Winner in the category Interior Design - Residential Single.

This luxury modernist home was once a mundane suburban bungalow, but now sees itself transformed. The two levels of the home nestle into the natural slope of the landscape, which grounds it in its surroundings. A restructured, raised roof and newly introduced windows bring in light, air, and open uninterrupted forest vistas. The result is a deep and philosophical connection between nature, architecture and interior.

A natural palette of materials throughout the home keeps this connection intact. Each furnishing element is chosen to directly contribute to this central theme, avoiding nonessential flourish in favor of clean, functional and uncluttered lines. Horizontal layers keep sight lines open and contribute to a sense of expansive openness. Throughout the architectural story, plants are incorporated to echo the home’s natural surroundings. Above all, functionality is paired with a sense of ease resulting from the visual and tactile comfort deeply anchored in the design.
