A Cottage in the City

In the midst of an urban environment, this luxury property transformed into a modern, cottage-like home. Our clients, a family with children, not only needed to house their extensive art collection, but also wanted an easy space for relaxing, family gatherings as well as more formal entertainment connected to their charity work. 

The spatial flow in and between rooms therefore became very important, as did the materials used. Luxurious, yet environmentally responsible woods and stones give the home a rustic feel while colourful steel, glass and ceramic elements introduce a contemporary counterbalance. 

The natural finishes of the largely Canadian-sourced materials are complemented by custom elements designed and fabricated by commissioned artisans. Much of the family’s personal character is reflected in the finished home, as their ideas and wishes informed the design from the overall vision to its minute details. The result is a coherent, luxurious home perfect for relaxed family living.
